Child Protection
How best should society protect children?
In order to implement the recommendations of the Bichard Inquiry the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill is being reintroduced to Parliament on Monday.
The Bill has attracted critics, despite the emotive issues surrounding the murders of Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells.
A summary from one campaign groups site says -
"The vetting of adults in the name of child protection is out of control. Those now being vetted include 16-year-olds teaching younger kids to read, parents volunteering at school, and foster carers’ friends. Running an after-school club is now subject to more stringent security tests than selling explosives."
More information about the Bill is available at the Department of Health's website.
